Electronic Marshalling | DeltaV Electronic Marshalling | DeltaV

Electronic Marshalling allows for the seamless addition of I/O throughout the plant without impacting control room cabinets. It utilizes a single-channel component known as a CHARM (CHARacterization Module) to enable connectivity for various I/O types.

CHARMs enable the termination of field wiring for any signal type at any location, eliminating the need for marshalling cabinets or cross-wiring. This means no marshalling cabinet or cross-wiring, fewer wires, much less work, and fewer contact points for potential failures.

How it Works

Eliminate Marshalling

Eliminate Marshalling

Electronic Marshalling delivers the flexibility to add I/O anywhere in the plant without affecting the control room cabinets. This is possible because Electronic Marshalling provides I/O type connectivity, like AI 4-20mA, AO 4-20mA, AI 0-10V, TC, RTD, DI Dry or Namur, DO High Side, Relays Contact Outputs or Isolated DI and DO for higher currents or higher VAC Voltages, in a single channel component — called a CHARM. CHARMs can be located in hazardous environments like Class1, Division 2 / Zone 2 Group A,B,C,D.
Reduce Schedule & Risk

Reduce Schedule & Risk

After a CHARM is in place, the channel can be electronically marshalled to any controller in the system. No marshalling cabinet or cross-wiring is needed. Fewer wires are involved and I/O locations do not have to be known upfront. Much less work is needed and fewer contact points for potential failures are given.
Flexible with late Changes

Flexible with late Changes

As neither re-design nor re-wiring is needed in case of a late project change, Electronic Marshalling lets you make changes without adding extra costs or impacting your start-up schedule.
Receive Proactive Alerts

Receive Proactive Alerts

CHARMs connect to the CHARM I/O Card (CIOC), which in turn can communicates to multiple controllers. Even if CIOC communication lines, and power distribution to the CHARMs are redundant, the system will alert you proactively if something in the field is happening. For example, the CIOC can monitor both 24VDC supply inputs and temperature to ensure reliable operation while being remotely mounted in a field enclosure in a harsh environment.
